Jesus for President in ‘08

I can’t say that I have ever been too much into presidential politics, whether it is…

…the over promising (can you really make that happen?)

…the constant spin (where else can you see a candidate give a victory speech after coming in fourth place in his parties primary)

…or the divisive nature of it. (Not only does it divide our country by red or blue, but it also divides Christians)

As a Christian, how are we to approach this “never-ending” season of electing a president? Would we be better off putting or efforts and hope into the Church rather than into a candidate or political party? What are the issues that matter most to you? Check out what matters to Daniel. Also, below are some interesting links to think about as you process this 2008 election season.

Ten Reasons I Won’t Be Voting For the President is Mark Van Steenwyk’s thought provoking post over at Jesus Manifesto that I would highly recommend along with his older post on Church and State.

On the other hand…One Nation… Under God? by Barack Obama tackles the question of religion and politics (This article was in the Nov. ‘06 issue of Sojourners Magazine)

And to go back to the first question on why it’s hard for me to get into politics? I find that it comes out of a culture of fear. Just watch and see what I mean…
